On Tuesday 23 July, a group of 21 intrepid women bravely took an afternoon out of the office and ventured to St Austell Golf Club for a spot of lunch and a golf lesson.
This was the Truro office’s second Professional Women’s Networking Group’s (PWNG) event of 2019. It’s safe to say there were some nervous smiles as people arrived as we all hesitantly ascertained the golfing skill level of the group. Luckily enough most of us had minimal experience and our gracious host, Eugenie Knight, had assured us that she would assume no previous knowledge or experience!
We all settled down to get to know each other and calm our nerves at a delightful buffet lunch, put on by the golf club. After a few slices of delicious homemade quiche and some salad we felt prepared to hit the driving range.
The conditions were favourable. The sun was shining and there was a refreshing breeze rustling the flags, as if they were beckoning us to make sure we didn’t miss!
Eugenie started off by showing us how to hold the golf club correctly, and demonstrated her swing. We then split into groups of three or four and had a practice while Eugenie worked her way around the group giving tips and advice.
We finished the afternoon with a small competition, where we had to hone our putting skills attempting to get our ball closest to the flag on the first shot. Angela Harvey took home the imaginary medal after beating the stiff competition by a narrow margin!
All in all, we had a fantastic afternoon. Some of us learned that we had a previously undiscovered talent, while others just confirmed that golfing perhaps wasn’t our thing. However, it’s fair to say that all of us made great connections and had a thoroughly enjoyable time networking with like-minded female professionals.
Our thanks to everyone who attended, Eugenie Knight and all the team at St Austell Golf Club for being such welcoming hosts, and to Linda Jenrick in our events team, for organising.
Our next event is likely to be in November/December 2019. If you would like to receive invites to future events, please get in touch with Linda (email@example.com).
