National lockdown 2021 – local authority administered grant schemes

Earlier this month (5 January 2021) the Chancellor announced further support for businesses during the latest National Lockdown. Included in the announcement were:

  • a £4bn top up grant for selected closed businesses
  • a £594m discretionary fund

These are in addition to the Local Restrictions Support Grant.

The Schemes

Two pots of money appear are heading to Local Authorities.

Scheme Top Up Grant

Discretionary Fund

Overview A one-off top up worth up to £9,000 per property to help businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure industries. The amount available to the business is subject to the rateable value of the property.

The one-off top us will be granted to closed businesses as follows:

  • £4,000 for businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or under
  • £6,000 for businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
  • £9,000 for businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000
A further £594m will be allocated to Local Authorities and Devolved Administrations throughout the United Kingdom in order to support other impacted businesses, who are ineligible to claim the one-off top up grant.
Appears similar to… Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund
Local Authority Discretionary Fund

(However, the UK Government and Local Authorities appear to be referring to this pot as Additional Restrictions Support Grant)
