The Nature of Business and the Business of Nature

Join us on Wednesday 26th May at 8.15am for the third in our 2021 series of Conversations over coffee events.

2021 will be seen as the year that biodiversity became firmly recognised as an issue which business needed to engage with. The concept of Natural Capital has been around for a few years but the Dasgupta review both highlights nature’s plight and the market’s failure in valuing nature. This has led commentators to state “the review is a sobering read and is already attracting comparisons, from an influence standpoint, to The Stern Review, a ground-breaking report on the economics of climate change from 2006.”

The importance of the need to act on nature and biodiversity now is highlighted by the fact that it is one of the central themes for the upcoming G7 meeting in the South West and the COP26 meeting later this year.

This session will be hosted by PKF Francis Clark’s Green Team and bring together experts and thought leaders from Exeter University setting the scene, with (practical) perspectives from businesses.

On our virtual sofa:

  • Alex Huke – Head of Environment and Clean Growth, Exeter University
  • Dr Dan Bloomfield – Tevi Project Manager, Exeter University
  • Sarah Witts – Director, Nature Connects
  • Julia Twomlow – CEO, Porthcurno Telegraph Museum
  • Piers Thompson – External Relations Director and Charitable Trust Chairman, St Austell Brewery

You will also have the opportunity to ask questions, as well contribute to research being carried out by Exeter University by responding to an online poll with questions to help us better understand your business relationship with nature and biodiversity.
