Over 100 businessmen and women recently attended successful PKF Francis Clark events, which helped businesses across Cornwall understand their financial needs and access the right funding, as part of Cornwall Business Week.
‘Finance in Cornwall’ is very highly valued within Cornwall Business Week, and this year celebrated its 11th event in conjunction with a brand new event, ‘Start-Up Cornwall’, also hosted by the firm.
The events, which together accommodated for both start-ups and established businesses were hosted at the Burrell Theatre in Truro, on 18 April and brought together sources of grant, debt and equity funding, as well as a number of business support agencies in the county.
‘Short and sharp’ presentations enabled delegates to assess which funding stream or funder best matched their requirements and were given the opportunity to participate in further discussions and make introductions for follow up meetings during the networking breaks.
The British Business Bank, Innovate UK and Crowdfunder were just some of the names amongst those speaking at the events, who helped make it a success.
PKF Francis Clark were delighted to welcome a guest speaker case study at each event, with a presentation from St Austell Brewery, a flagship company for Cornwall (who days later secured a Queens Award), concluding Finance in Cornwall and Odyssey Marine Adventures featuring in the brand new Start-Up Cornwall event. Odyssey Marine Adventures were a great example of how start-ups need to be agile and adapt their plans, and delegates were appreciative of Matt and Pete sharing their story.
Andrew James, organiser of Finance in Cornwall and Start-Up Cornwall at PKF Francis Clark said:
“Our Finance in Cornwall event has been described as ‘best of its kind in the area’ and we are always so pleased to see how many Cornish businesses attend.
“With the record number of new business start-ups in the region, we wanted to run a sister event alongside Finance in Cornwall, tailored for start-ups and those looking to begin their own venture, where we could provide specific guidance. We are thrilled that the event was well received with one delegate describing the event as ‘a useful and helpful introduction to starting up’.”
Recognising the large geographical area of Cornwall, PKF Francis Clark will be running a whistle-stop tour around the county in May, taking the ‘best bits’ of Finance in Cornwall into an even more condensed ‘bite-size’ format. Find out more here.
