Office closures - Our teams have worked exceptionally hard during the pandemic, so we are giving everyone an extra day’s holiday as a thank you. On Friday 23 July our offices will be closed and we will be offline.

Six newly qualified advisers strengthen growing tax team

Our award-winning tax team has been strengthened by six newly qualified chartered tax advisers.

Amelia Gayton and Sally Carr in Exeter, Charles Richards and Ben Slater in Torquay, Franchesca Johnson in Bristol and James Ross in Truro all passed their final Chartered Institute of Taxation exams after several years of combining work and study.

Charles also won the Avery Jones Medal for the best performance nationally in the Application and Professional Skills paper, while Franchesca received a distinction for her Taxation of Major Corporates Advanced Technical paper.

Meanwhile, three more members of the team – Mike Frost and Aggie Symes in Exeter, and Matt Chester in Bristol – have completed their ATT taxation apprenticeships.

John Endacott, head of tax, said: “I’m very pleased that we have added another six qualified chartered tax advisers to our growing team in the latest round of exams.

“Growing our own talent is a core part of our ethos as a firm, and their success is particularly hard-earned against the backdrop of the pandemic. Special congratulations go to Charles and Franchesca for their particularly impressive achievements.”

Prize-winner Charles joined PKF Francis Clark as a graduate trainee in 2015. He decided to specialise in tax after qualifying as a chartered accountant three years ago.

“As an ACA trainee I got to do a wide variety of accounts, audit and tax work,” said Charles. “I really wanted to do more private client work, because I enjoy helping clients to solve problems and I find the interaction between different taxes interesting.

“Paul Collings, my supervising partner, suggested doing the CTA qualification. It’s involved a lot of studying at weekends, evenings and early mornings over the past three years, but the support from Paul and the firm throughout has been great.”

PKF Francis Clark has welcomed nearly 200 recruits in the past year, including a record intake of 48 new trainees, bringing the firm’s total headcount to around 850.
