Marianne Hawksworth

Marianne joined us towards the end of 2022 as an experienced VAT senior manager. Based primarily in our Salisbury office, Marianne has advised a wide range of clients across the commercial, rural and charity/not for profit sectors for over 20 years, from owner managed businesses to large multi-nationals.

Prior to her VAT consultancy career, which commenced with KPMG in London, Marianne worked in HM Revenue & Customs as VAT compliance Senior Officer before managing a VAT registration team in London. After a career break, during which she worked as a special educational needs support at a local primary school, Marianne worked at a boutique VAT advisory firm and most recently at Old Mill Accountancy Limited as the VAT team lead.

Her expertise lies in looking at the ‘bigger picture’ and finding solutions to VAT issues, often working with other tax colleagues and advisors to deliver the best outcomes for our clients whilst keeping everyone up to date, and explaining difficult technical matters so they are easily understood. Marianne particularly enjoys advising on complex land and property scenarios, as well as international VAT matters, and has a great track record in gaining HMRC’s agreement to resolution on complex and ‘grey areas’ of VAT, as well as dealing with gaining additional VAT refunds and financial penalty mitigation where there have been VAT errors.
