Partner, tax
Meet Stuart
Stuart is a corporate tax partner who advises fast growing and large complex corporate entities.
Hi, I’m Stuart I’m a corporate tax partner here in the Bristol office.
I’ve been working in tax for over two decades. I qualified as a chartered tax adviser in 2002, having trained with KPMG in London and Bristol.
Since then, I’ve specialised in fast growth businesses, often with an international dynamic and those with private equity backing.
I also lead the firm’s R&D tax credit practice. That’s been a hugely interesting and challenging area the last 2 or 3 years, and my work in R&D has led me to become involved in the ICAEW, the business tax committee.
My work with the committee means that I’m involved in a wide range of issues and consultation processes, and that’s allowed me to help shape future tax policy, which is a phenomenally interesting area and one I’ve really enjoyed.
When I’m not deep in tax legislation, you’ll find me watching rugby, coaching rugby or out on my bike for a long bike ride. Or with my family, bodyboarding on the north Cornwall coast.
So let’s chat, whether that’s about tax or about cycling in Somerset.

Known for his precision, strategic thinking and deep expertise, Stuart advises fast-growing and large corporate groups on some of the most challenging tax issues they face – from international structuring and governance to high-value disputes with HMRC.

He is frequently called upon to resolve multi-year tax enquiries, navigate HMRC’s Business Risk Review process and advise on tax assurance and governance frameworks for large businesses.
Stuart is a recognised thought leader in UK tax policy. He sits on the ICAEW Business Tax Committee, contributing to national discussions on tax legislation and compliance. He also writes regularly for the tax press and speaks at industry events on topics ranging from R&D tax relief to international tax reform.
